A legend of MMA returns to the Octagon this weekend as B.J. Penn comes back out of retirement to face an up-and-comer in Yair Rodriguez. UFC Fight Night 103 will also feature appearances from the likes of Joe Lauzon, Court McGee and Sergio Pettis.
UFC odds are available at Bovada on all twelve fights on the card, and most matchups are currently closely handicapped.
Penn has not fought in two and a half years and didn’t exactly go into retirement on top, having only one win to his credit in his last seven fights. For that reason he is a +325 underdog at UFC Fight Night 103. He is facing a very skilled opponent in Rodriguez (-500) and will need to get the fight to the mat to have his best chance of winning.
We agree with the lines in this one and expect Penn to be out-worked and roughed up for what will likely be a Rodriguez unanimous decision or late-round KO finish. Why Penn is returning to the Octagon is unclear, but we expect him to get a reminder of why he retired in the first place.
In the UFC Fight Night 103 co-main event Lauzon is a slim -125 Bovada favorite against Marcin Held (-105). This fight could go either way, but what we can expect is that it will be a great candidate for Fight of the Night honors.
Held has dropped two of his last three and will need a stellar performance if he wants to remain in the promotion moving forward.
We think Lauzon will bring a heightened level of pace and superior grappling skills, so for those reasons he gets the nod as the best UFC odds chalk option on the card. He too has dropped two of his last three fights, but we think he is the best overall fighter in this matchup.
The other MMA betting line that jumps out at us is the -115 Bovada option on Ben Saunders winning over Court McGee (-115). We think Saunders is the tougher of the two and should be able to wear down his opponent for a decision win.
