UFC Fight Night: Machida vs Romero Odds

Lyoto Machida makes a quick return to the Octagon for this weekend’s UFC Fight Night 70 card to face the surging Yoel Romero in what promises to be a wild striking affair.

The card will also have appearances by Lorenz Larkin and Eddie Gordon, as well as a bevy of hungry young fighters bidding to make a name for themselves in their respective divisions.

The main event of the UFC Fight Night 70 card offers MMA betting fans a chance to get action on Lyoto Machida against an aggressive striker in Yoel Romero. Current odds at Bovada on this fight have Machida handicapped as the -200 favorite while action on Romero will pay +160.

We like the idea that Machida’s footwork and counter-punching will be the difference against an aggressive opponent, and we expect him to finish Romero within the first three rounds. Romero does have an elite wrestling pedigree, but taking down Machida is one of the most difficult things to achieve in the Octagon.

The co-main event will feature Lorenz Larkin against Santiago Ponzinibbio in what should be a fight that doesn’t go the distance. Current Bovada UFC odds have Larkin handicapped as the -210 favorite while upset odds on Ponzinibbio are coming with a +170 payday.

This fight offers a good opportunity to cash in on an upset bet. Larkin has dropped four of his last six fights while Ponzinibbio has won nine of his last 10. We like Ponzinibbio by submission in this one, especially in the early rounds while the fighters are still dry.

Antonio Carlos Junior is currently a -200 favorite over Eddie Gordon, who will pay +160 for the upset. Once again we like the chalk option in this fight for the simple reason that Gordon has lost his last two fights to less dangerous opponents than Carlos Junior.

Look for the Carlos Junior victory via submission as well. He is a two-time World Champion jiu-jitsu fighter and has a lethal arm-triangle choke. If he’s able to get the fight to the ground it will most likely be over in short order.
