MMA betting action is on the schedule for this weekend with a free UFC Fight Night card. Headlining UFC Fight Night 106 will be a Middleweight fight between MMA legend Vitor Belfort and Kelvin Gastelum, while the co-main event features Light Heavyweight legend Mauricio Rua against Gian Villante.
Belfort has been fighting in the UFC since UFC 12 and has accomplished nearly everything there is to accomplish in the sport. Well beyond his prime, Belfort is handicapped as a heavy +275 underdog to beat Gastelum. He has not been effective since being denied testosterone treatments and has dropped three of his last four fights.
Gastelum is a former The Ultimate Fighter winner who has shown great promise in the past but has been stifled by weight cutting issues. Now at 185 pounds where he has had success in the past, Gastelum is handicapped as the UFC odds -365 favorite to beat Belfort. We expect his pace and grind to be too much for his aging opponent, and expect this fight to end in a late-round submission or decision in favor of Gastelum.
In the UFC Fight Night 106 co-main event former UFC Light Heavyweight champ Rua will meet Villante. Both fighters have recent records that include multiple losses and who will come out on top in this one will be dependent on what shape Rua is in come fight time. He is the more talented fighter, but age and desire are not what they once were for him.
UFC odds at Bovada on this fight have Rua handicapped as the -145 favorite while action on the Villante win will pay +115. This fight is a tough call to make, but we like the upset option on Villante for the simple reason that Rua has not fought in nearly a year and has dropped four of his last seven fights.
The other UFC betting line that jumps out at us is the -160 price on Edson Barbosa to beat Beneil Dariush. That looks like a great price on Barbosa, who is capable of exciting striking and devastating finishes.
